Highway Safety

Welcome to the Office of Highway Safety web site.

The Office of Highway Safety provides public education and support for law enforcement and community efforts to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities resulting from traffic crashes.

Public education promotes highway safety practices and reduces driver error.  Enforcement of traffic laws guides traffic and discourages hazardous driving.  Community efforts provide focused impact by using local resources, such as law enforcement, schools, media, and safety organizations, to promote traffic safety in a community.

We invite you to learn more about traffic safety in South Dakota and encourage you to join in the efforts to make our roads a safer place to travel.
