File a Complaint

The Office of Weights and Measures investigates consumer complaints associated with:

  • Weighing and measuring equipment accuracy
  • Petroleum quality
  • Packaging and labeling.

The most common complaints include fuel pump accuracy, advertising price signage, octane rating, water in fuel, and issues associated with method of sale or misleading or incorrect product labeling.

  • Complaints on pumps, scales, or meters can be submitted by double-clicking on the following link, and completing the form, and sending it to the Office of Weights and Measures, 118 West Capitol Avenue, Pierre, SD 57501 (complaint_pump_scale_meter_typed.doc).
  • Complaints on pumps, scales, or meters can also be faxed to (605) 773-6631.  Just double-click on the following link, print, complete, and fax the form (complaint_form_pump_scale_meter.pdf).
  • Complaints concerning petroleum quality, method of sale, packaging, or labeling can be filed by double-clicking on the following link, completing the form, printing it, then mailing it (complaint_misc_typed.doc).
  • Complaints concerning petroleum quality, method of sale, packaging, or labeling can be also be faxed to (605) 773-6631.  Just double-click on the following link, print, complete, and fax the form (complaint_form_misc.pdf).
