National Fire Academy (NFA) Courses
The State Fire Marshal works with the U.S. Fire Administration, the National Fire Academy (NFA) and South Dakota fire departments to deliver NFA courses locally.
If you or members of your department are interested in taking a National Fire Academy (NFA) class, sign up early! NFA courses require students pre-register 40 days prior to class date so they can order course materials and arrange instructor travel. A minimum of 15 students must pre-register for the course; otherwise, it wil be canceled by the NFA.
NFA STUDENTS: Be sure you have registered for your personal FEMA SID number prior to the class. The 10-digit number starts with zeroes (i.e. 0000458736) and correlates directly to you. If you need to apply for a number or find your existing number, visit the FEMA website, which will guide you through the process. You must have this number to complete the applicatin to obtain your NFA class certificate.
When there is a class scheduled, a link to a class description will be included below each class offering. For questions, contact the State Fire Marshal or call Mike Jones at (605) 280-8165.
