9-1-1 Resources for Kids & Educators

Make sure children know how to dial 9-1-1 from the devices available to them (landline phone, cell phone with a passcode, and older flip phones).  Also, teach them when to call 9-1-1 (for example, when they see fire coming from a neighbor's house) and when not to call 9-1-1 (they accidentally tipped over a lamp and broke it).

Help prepare children by making sure they can provide the information a 9-1-1- dispatcher will ask for:

  • Their name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • A description of where they are if the emergency happens away from home
  • What type of emergency it is or symptoms the victim is showing
