State InspectionS Program
To ensure businesses are meeting state and federal requirements, the South Dakota State Inspections Program provides field inspection services for a variety of state agencies and departments:
- Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Ensuring compliance with regulations and laws for equipment, facilities and processing.
- Department of Education
- Upholding licensing criteria and regulations for school districts, daycare providers, food programs and other agencies.
- State Fire Marshal
- Conducting school and fire inspections, enforcing fire safety laws and issuing boiler operation certificates.
- Department of Health
- Ensuring health and food safety standards in foodservice establishments, lodging and campgrounds.
- Lottery
- Inspecting lottery equipment and establishments for compliance with standards and fair working order.
- Department of Social Services
- Overseeing safety and standards for childcare services, daycares and afterschool programs.
- Weights and Measures
- Inspecting commercial scales, pumps, meters, and measuring devices for compliance with standards.
State inspectors conduct a variety of inspections throughout the day. Inspections can take 15 minutes to three hours, depending on the type and complexity. Our staff conduct inspections including:
