CJIS Security Policy
Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) is the central source for criminal justice information and records in the FBI. CJIS compiles crime statistics, maintains databases of information for background checks and biometrics, provides data exchange tools, houses the National Crime Information Center and more.
CJIS ensures that communications over networks like SD LETS meet security requirements and guidelines to protect the transmission and storage of sensitive law enforcement data. The CJIS security policy provides appropriate controls and guidance for the creation, viewing, storage and destruction of criminal justice information.
