Identification Cards
Obtain or Renew a Non-Driver ID Card
An identification card is an official document that can be used to validate your identity if you’re a non-driver or don’t have a South Dakota Driver’s License. There’s no age requirement for an ID card. To apply for an identification card, you may schedule an appointment to visit an exam station or walk in to any open driver exam station.
To apply for an ID card, you’ll need a few required documents.
If you’re under age 21 with less than five years until your 21st birthday, your ID card will expire 30 days after your 21st birthday.
To renew your ID card, you can apply online or by mail.
If you did not renew your ID card using the online or mail-in
method 5 years ago (for your last renewal),
you may be eligible to renew online or by mail!
A replacement (or duplicate) ID card may be requested
online or by mail once every 10 years.
